AQA staff are due to strike at the end of July, while Unison and others have said that this has a possibility of delayed results for GCSE and A-Level students. This is extremely unfair, especially since students have had enough stress this year already.
Since many students are already panicking that results day is going to be delayed, the AQA have said that they have plans in place which will ensure that students will get their results on time. With the strike being from July 29th to July 30th, A-Level results on the 18th of August and GCSE results on 25th August a week later, it is no surprise that some students are scared of the impending AQA strike harming their results.
The AQA have said that they are looking into pay increases and will inform their staff of any changes. Students are hoping that this will be done before the strike as they’re afraid of their results being delayed. The current pay increase is going to be 5.6% compared to the 3% from the last one that AQA had, which is a great improvement.
In a statement, the AQA wrote; “We’re disappointed that Unison is claiming otherwise, as this is wrong and only serves to cause needless alarm for students and teachers at what’s already a challenging time.” In the same statement, it states that only 5% of the staff have voted for industrial action, while 95% have voted for the 5.6% increase in pay.
